Week In Review – Rain, Check Ups and Flashing

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

It was a rainy, grey, chilly week and exactly the opposite of what you want for mid-May.

  • This week I read a lot, which was nice, and really the only way to spend an evening after a long, dreary day.
  • Enzo had his 5 year check-up this week and remains on the smaller side.  He’s in the 15th percentile for height and weight, which isn’t surprising as neither Josh or I are very tall and while their is height on my Dad’s side, there isn’t much on Josh’s side.
  • There is a measles outbreak in Minnesota right now, so the kids’ doctor also recommended that we get Phoebe her MMR booster a bit early.  She was awesome about getting a shot.
  • Friday was interesting because Enzo got sent home early for indecent exposure. Apparently 3 kids got sent home (one other for the same thing)… what is in the air exactly??
  • On Saturday the kids and I hung out.  We started by going to the library and picked up a few books for the kids and myself.

  • Then we headed to an indoor play area since it was still raining steadily.  Unfortunately the kids didn’t last long. There was an odd mix at the playground and both kids ended up getting hurt due to bigger kids and I had to come up with a back up plan…  Movie it is! We watched The Boss Baby, which actually wasn’t terrible.

  • You really can’t watch a movie and have tons of popcorn without stopping for ice cream afterward, right?

  • We cleaned the garage on Sunday morning, which was nice to get done, even if we could see our breath while doing it.  Ha!  The kids “helped” for a bit and then got cold and went back inside. I really can’t blame them.
  • The rest of the afternoon we hung out and just did… whatever.  Not a terrible way to end the week… or begin it depending on how you look at it.

I hope everyone has a Happy Monday!  I’m looking forward to the upcoming 3 day weekend!

Week In Review – Sunshine!

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

This past week felt like a bit of a hectic one.  Probably  because we had quite a bit going on.

  • The kids had dentist appointments, which they are both great about. We started taking them around 18 months to get them used to it at an early age and now they both lie down without issue and do everything they’re asked. Total pros.
  • We also picked up our first meat package from TC Farms this week!  Really excited about joining our first CSA and I’ll post more about it later.

  • On Wednesday I made a pie for my sister-in-law who had an unfortunate run-in with a piano and lost her fingertip, so I decorated her pie appropriately.  She’s a trooper for sure, and has handled the whole thing really well.

  • Phoebe hasn’t been the greatest sleeper this week, and honestly they have both been a tad cranky. I’m not sure what all is up. She and I ended up watching a re-run of The Great British Bake Off when she couldn’t get comfortable or sleep one night.

  • On Friday night Enzo had a birthday party to attend, so I went with him to that while Josh had a daddy-daughter date with Phoebe.

  • Then on Saturday we went flower shopping!  The weather was perfect for it and we got some lovely assistance at The Mustard Seed!

  • We had lunch and then headed back home to get everything planted.  The kids wanted to help a lot and I set them to work filling pots and teaching them to carefully plant our purchases.

  • We then made Uzi’s day and pulled the leash out for him.  One day I hope to have a bigger yard and not be so close to a main road so he can more safely wander.

  • Then it was Sunday and after some cleaning and refereeing the children, made the yummiest strawberry rhubarb pie and pretty much called it a day.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Week in Review – A Preview of Things to Come

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Considering we were on vacation the past two weeks, things have been anything but normal and a week in review would probably take a while.  Therefore, I’m going to do a brief recap of the last two weeks’ accomplishments and then spend time going through pictures and writing up who knows how many posts about roadtripping with two small children.

  • The biggest accomplishment by far of our two week road trip was making it home in one piece and no one committing murder.  We were all delirious by the time we arrived home on Saturday evening. I need a vacation from vacation.

  • We managed to only forget two or three things along the way, which I consider to be pretty good when you’re packing as much as we did and have kids who forget where they put everything… and me.
  • Fit in some last minute spontaneous stops trying to make the most of our crazy family vacation.
  • Saw so many different things!!  And encourage the kids to try and do new things… like peeing in the desert, for instance.

  • We handled unaccepted things with ease and grace. No air conditioning in the van and have to pay $800 to fix it?  No problem.  We aren’t even thinking about how over-budget we went on this vacation because we needed it and we had fun.
  • Had some meltdowns along the way and learned that two weeks was way too long to be away from home for our kids, at least at this age.  Live and learn and then have melatonin on hand to help with time changes.
  • Only “cried” a little when we went from sunny weather to cold and then just plain lame.  Oh well, we laugh at snow in our sneakers and then find indoor activities and let the kids have too much screen time.  Do what you can to survive, right?

Seriously, though, it was quite the adventure and it was exciting to see the kids try new things and even more fun to see family and friends.  I feel a little bad we pushed the kids as hard as we did, though. Sometimes it’s hard to remember they’re as little as they are and we don’t always know their limits until we push them. Whoops.

I’m sure you’re all looking forward to every little detail, so fear not!  All the crazy fun is yet to come!

Happy Monday all!!!

Week in Review – The One Where I Tried to Be Healthier…

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

It’s been a fairly busy week leading up to our vacation, and this week in particular I decided I’d try to be a little extra healthy in anticipation of eating while traveling.  Sure, I’ve stocked up on healthy snacks, but let’s face it… when you’re on vacation you tend to not always eat your best and it is what it is.  So I figured I’d try out some different juices and things this week. That’s a good enough way to hopefully cut down on some bloat and avoid carbs and all that good stuff…. it didn’t go as planned.

This juice was surprisingly very tasty and delicious.  It also gave me false hope because not all juices are created equally.

This juice showed me that I don’t do grass.  I am not a rabbit or a cow or any other grass eating mammal and therefore should not be drinking grass because it tastes like…well, ass.

I had to eat a Kit-Kat bar to get the taste out of my mouth.  You win this round Overly Healthy Green Juice.

I can’t even believe it’s actually April, and I flipped my work calendar this week.

Over the weekend I took a lot of photos for an upcoming Day In The Life Post, because it’s that time again!

The most exciting part being the new bikes I picked up for the kids.  It’ll take some getting used to, especially for Phoebe since the bike she wanted is a tad taller than Enzo’s and she’s just a little small still.  They may have been more excited for their helmets… which Enzo wore on his almost too tiny trike while he waited for his big bike.

Honestly, I’m just excited that both kids (Enzo especially) hopped on the new much taller bikes with zero fear. Even when Enzo crashed, he got back on again, which is such a huge step for him. He used to be terrified to even ride down the driveway because of the slight incline.

Finishing up the weekend, our house/cat sitters came over to go over the ropes on the cats needs.  So grateful to have friends and family who willingly watch over the cats and house while we’re away.

Week In Review – Unicorn Poop Edition

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Last week was a semi-productive one, mostly in terms of planning/prepping for our upcoming road trip.  When it comes to trips I tend to go a little crazy with lists and spreadsheets and planning.  I’m fine with a certain amount of spontaneity, but I like to be sure we have the basics covered.

I also went and grabbed cupcakes from Nadia Cakes since they do special ones for April Fools.  Unicorn Poop is the favorite.

We also finally got around to watching Fantastic Beasts this week.  One of the hardest parts of having kids is finding time to have dates and most importantly go to the movies. I can’t wait until they’re older.

As usual, the majority of the week seemed to take place the weekend.   I took the kids to get haircuts, or rather a haircut for Enzo and a little trim for Phoebe as she kept correcting me since she didn’t want to mistakenly get too much taken off.

Then we went to get shoes as they’ve outgrown a lot and they need some summer ones. Enzo really didn’t care, but Phoebe couldn’t decide which pair and ended up on several. Admittedly, these little heels are adorable.

We then went to the zoo since it was a gorgeous day and to hopefully see some farm babies. Alas, everyone else had the same idea and it was PACKED.

Enzo does really well with sticking close, but Phoebe still has a tendency to wander off and then with the crowds, get freaked out if she loses sight of me, so I wasn’t too bummed when the kids asked if we could leave and go get ice cream.

Sunday we finally got around to doing our taxes.  Normally we don’t wait until April, but… whoops. Needless to say the second you sit down to do something important that is when the kids want your undivided attention.

Have a Happy Monday everyone!
