About Heather Shoberg

I'm many things... I'm a wife, a mother, a book lover, a movie lover, a photography lover, a music lover, a coffee lover, and a chocolate lover. I have cute aggression and I'm an introvert. I love mangoes and my favorite flower is the sunflower. I got married in Converse sneakers and love fairy lights. I love the mountains and when I was little I wanted to be an astronaut.

Kindergarten Thoughts…

One month. No, less than a month and we will have a kindergartner on our hands.  This should not be having such an emotional effect on me, but it is. It makes sense that moms who have had their kids home with them since they were babies would be emotional, but he’s been in day care since he was 6 weeks old. Six weeks.  That sounds so young now.  At the time I was so conflicted about leaving him. I really had no choice, but while part of me was loath to be separated from him, the other part of me was also glad to have space and adult interaction.

Now he’s five and asking about when it will be September. He’s so excited and therefore I need to be just as excited for him. But, oh the anxiety that is for some reason creeping in.  That feral part of me wants to protect him from everything, but I know that I have to just step back and watch him go. Maybe it’s harder because it won’t be me putting him on that bus every day?  I feel like I’m losing so much time with them by having to work and I would love more than anything to be able to drive him to school and pick him up, or at the very least to wait with him at the bus stop with his sister and excitedly be there when he gets home.

Sigh.

Anyway, I never did share any pictures from his preschool graduation, did I?

Oh this boy.  Sometimes we’re too much alike.  More and more we’re starting to find a better middle ground. We’re both hot headed at times and need our space.  I can always count on him to be a champion for whoever needs it, though.  Whether it’s protecting his sister from a bully on the playground or trying to keep everyone out of the room while I have quiet time.  You’ll do fine… we’ll do fine.

Week In Review – Date Night Edition

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

I should really just title these Weekend in Review rather than Week In Review since rarely do I remember to keep track of what happens throughout the entire week.  So, a few tidbits.

Sleep continues to be a tricky devil and the beginning of the week was a frustrating one with Little Miss not wanting to cooperate.  I did, however, make both kids very happy by getting them some requested costumes that they should get a lot of use out of.

Phoebe wants to wear hers pretty much as soon as she wakes up in the morning.

We have over 1000 roaches residing in our house now.  I decided to bulk order to save some money, and now we just have to make sure we keep them alive for the next month or so.  Bowser is growing and ate 20 in one sitting the other day!

Josh also got this great picture of Bowser one day.  Haha!

The best part of the week was going out with Josh on Friday night to see Mystery Science Theater 3K Live, however.  It was a late night, so we stopped for drinks and something to munch before hand.

Josh even got me to try his oysters.  Normally they are just not something I do, but these were more cooked, smoked, and served on toast, so I did it.

It’s unlikely I’ll be slurping any out of the shell anytime soon, but these weren’t bad.

The show itself, was a lot of fun.  We had really good seats and Josh grabbed a couple of pictures before the actual movie started up.

Oh boy was it a crappy movie too. Hahaha!  It was a fantastic night and I’m glad we got to together. Josh is a massive MST3K fan, and I’ve seen a good many of the episodes thanks to him. :p

The rest of the weekend was pretty low-key.  I still feel like I could use an extra 10 hours of sleep, to be honest.  On that note, have a great Monday!

Currently

Reading… The Two Towers, Tell the Wolves I’m Gone

Watching (on TV)… Game of Thrones, The Great British Bake-Off, Glow (just finished)

Watching (movies)… Wow… I can’t think of any that we’ve watched recently.

Playing… Broken Age, Indigo Prophecy

Listening to… Silence, but I should put on some Spotify or something before I get tired.

Drinking… Coffee, coffee, coffee!!

Eating… Too much junk… again. Story of my life.

Wearing… Layers.  August weather can be crazy at times.

Deciding… What to wear for tonight.  It warmed up, but it might be too chilly to wear my original planned outfit.

Wanting… More time!!  How is there never enough?

Looking forward to… Renaissance Festival time!  I’m a dork and this year we are absolutely dressing up. Any excuse to dress in costume, right?

Feeling… Excited to go out with Josh tonight to MST3K Live!

Dreaming… Of all the things I’ll do once we win the lottery/start working for ourselves.

Searching… For random toys that Phoebe doesn’t know where she put.  Last time I couldn’t find the flashlights, I found them in our closet with her “buried” treasure, so maybe I’ll look there.

Thoroughly enjoying… Watching Enzo take on more responsibility here and there and having him be more snuggly.

Disliking… Tantrums.

Water Balloon Fight

Well, considering we’re almost to fall, I should probably enjoy these summer moments while they last.  The high is the in 50s today. The 50’s.  I’m not ready for fall and quite frankly, it gives me a bit of the sads when I even start to go there, so I won’t.

I had a lot of great intentions for summer this year, and then I’m not really sure what happened… I suppose we have been a bit busy and considering the kids had swimming lessons every Sunday for the majority of the summer that kind of explains why we didn’t do much else with water.  How can summertime be so short, though?  I feel like we really need to get in a few outside swimming days before the pools close, but that will depend entirely upon the weather. We did, however, have at least ONE decent water balloon fight.  I didn’t get any pictures during the fight since they both gained up on me multiple times, but it was a lot of fun.

Who knows, maybe we’ll have time to sneak in one last fight before the end of summer, and maybe we’ll even convince Josh to join us.

Random Facts About Me…

Because… why not?  Maybe it’s slightly cheating, but I’m still writing, right?

Random Things about Me

  • I will never own an electric knife because of the movie Maximum Overdrive. You know the one, right? Fairly cheesy where all the machines (electric and gas operated) turn on everyone?  Well, for some reason the electric knife scene has stayed with me…
  • I have a serious case of cute aggression. I want to squeeze the fluff out of all of the adorable cute, cuddly soft things!!!
  • Water is not my favorite thing to drink and I’m really particular about the taste. I can’t drink water if it’s a day old or has been sitting out (hello, dust) and not all bottled water is considered equal. The only bottled water I like is Fiji (I mostly drink tap water, but prefer it to be filtered and ice cold). Dasani is one of my least favorite bottled waters.  I’m a water diva, what can I say?
  • I have been dyeing my hair since I was 12/13ish… I think the longest stretch I’ve gone without coloring it was when I was pregnant. It all began when my mom wouldn’t let me color my hair, so I grabbed all the red Kool-Aid in the house, mixed it with water in a big bowl and stuck my head in the bowl for half an hour.  She wasn’t happy when I walked out of my room with my new locks.
  • I want a small hobby farm one day with bees, rabbits and chickens/ducks and maybe a goat or two.
  • I have a major fear of any kind of apocalypse or major disaster actually happening. The idea of a major World War freaks me out and I rarely watch doomsday movies (unless they are super cheesy) because they give me extreme anxiety and suddenly I find myself on Survivalist websites and planning a bunker and making lists of what we need and where we should live should a zombie apocalypse occur.
  • I have a hard time saying “No.” Of course I want to round up for that charity and every charity. Of course I want a pound of coffee so I can get a free coffee because that totally make sense.  Yes, sell me lipstick. Of course I want to buy perfume out of the trunk of your car because that seems totally legit (it did actually smell like the designer stuff too!!).  Yes, random kid who can smell a sucker a mile away, I will absolutely buy a gallon of the cleaner you’re selling just so you’ll leave.
  • I’m an INFJ.
  • My ideal afternoon would be spent lounging under a massive tree in the most perfect of prairies, reading a book. When I’m driving, I always notice trees and one day I am going to have a house on acreage with gently rolling hills and amazing trees for picnics and lazy afternoon reading/day dreaming sessions.
