About Heather Shoberg

I'm many things... I'm a wife, a mother, a book lover, a movie lover, a photography lover, a music lover, a coffee lover, and a chocolate lover. I have cute aggression and I'm an introvert. I love mangoes and my favorite flower is the sunflower. I got married in Converse sneakers and love fairy lights. I love the mountains and when I was little I wanted to be an astronaut.

A Return of Sorts…

I can’t really be sure who all reads this little blog, but if you do, it’s probably obvious I’ve been away.  Sometimes you just need a break and I’ve been busy and had a lot going on and this blog has fallen lower on my list of priorities than everything else.  It probably will continue to remain there until the new year, is my guess.

One of the biggest happenings of late has been with Uzi.  Ultimately he was diagnosed with diabetes, so we’ve been adjusting.

I am so glad that’s all it is, though. I was legitimately concerned we were going to lose him, but he was one hearty cat, and so loved.  Phoebe even decided to be Uzi for Halloween.

When all is said and done, the changes haven’t been too severe.  We moved a litter box upstairs to be closer to him as he regained his strength (alas, we discovered after the cats had basically destroyed the carpet in Phoebe’s room with pee, which really doesn’t take much – long story, but I think it will need to be replaced because we can’t leave the door open and I’ve tried so many things.  I’ve got one last cleaner on the way, but if that doesn’t work, we’re just going to have to tear it all up).  The injections are going well. I give him two a day and we’ve adjusted feedings.  He is gaining weight again (!!!) and is slowly returning to being our Uzi.  He has much less patience for Vega, however.

She is a fairly large turd, let’s just face it.  I heard Uzi growl for the first time in years, however, when he wasn’t in the mood to deal with her shenanigans.  I do also have to guard him while he has his evening meal.  I give the other cats a mini meal, but they go after his, and quite frankly the girls do NOT need to put on any more weight.

So, needless to say things have been a little crazy and that’s just the tip of the ice berg.  I’m sure I’ll check in now and then, but in the meantime I’m working on reaching my reading goal for the year, doing some gaming, and really just trying to relax.

Happy Hump Day!

Turning 35

Tomorrow I turn 35.  The end.

It’s not exactly a milestone year, but it has definitely been on my mind and as I get closer to 40 (!!!!) it makes me get a little existential and if I’m not careful can lead to a certain amount of anxiety.  No one really wants to think about their mortality, do they?  While I’m not on my deathbed by any means and I’m not having a mid-life crisis… exactly, I am certainly becoming more aware that my time on earth is finite and I have not reached my fullest potential and while I may not know what that is… the clock is ticking. How much more time do I spend just casually strolling through my life?  I feel like I’m window shopping and I keep looking at all these amazing items in store windows and either lusting over them or telling myself that I can’t have them because of reason a, b or c.  I am excellent at making excuses and hiding behind fear and quite frankly I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time. Not all of it, of course!  I’m just becoming more aware that I’ve spent a lot of time walking away from the edge rather than just leaping and putting faith in the universe/my abilities.  So… 35 is going to be different. Lots of changes… I hope in store.

Okay, enough of that. Here is a picture of a lamp I bought recently.

Who knew a little table lamp would make such a big difference in our living room?  I can even read on the couch at night again!  Ha!  Finally an impulse Target buy that was truly really worthwhile.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Our Little Star

Thanks to Facebook and Timehop, I realized that this week marks two years of Vega being a part of our crazy family.  I can’t not acknowledge the momentous occasion, now can I?  Especially not after she has been repeatedly waking up each night to give me a very thorough bath.  I appreciate the attention, but couldn’t she just lay on my chest/head/etc. without the bathing part?

Like most young cats, she is into everything and loves to rub her face on anything she comes into contact with when she isn’t verifying that gravity still works by periodically testing the theory knocking items off of whatever she pleases.

She is obsessed with Bowser and can often be found near his enclosure. I’m sure she just wants to be his friend and she hasn’t once thought about chasing him and murdering him.

She is my shadow and while we are still working on her relationship with the kids, I don’t mind if she likes me best. Ha!  She has been warming up a lot more to Josh and is getting better about other people, so progress is good. I catch Uzi playing with her now and then and while she can be a pest at times, that moment of spontaneity (adopting her) was one my best.

Week In Review – Almost 35

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Once again, it’s time for another week in review!  Can’t say much has changed this week, though.  We did, however, get some fresh air and accomplished a few things that really did need doing.  I treated myself to a little early birthday present as well.

  • My week started off with computer updates… lengthy computer updates.  It was also a week of Wonder Woman!

  • Enzo has been keeping up to date with what he’s been learning in school (which I love!)  We’re still working on remembering which way some numbers go, but he’s doing great.

  • The pets have all been rather snuggly/needy this weekend.  Almost every morning Uzi has wanted to climb up on my shoulders when I’m trying to get ready for work, Vega has followed me everywhere, and even Ziggy has been more clingy and talkative than usual.  Heck, even Bowser has been wanting to be out and held lately!

  • Got some housework done, despite everything being so hot and humid. I’m not a fan of doing housework when it’s sweltering.  Vega once again being the great helper that she is.

  • So glad we made the most of one really nice evening this week with a family walk.

  • This week was one with lots of interesting clothing choices for the kids. Haha!  My favorite was how we forgot picture day was on Thursday, however, and Enzo decorated himself in the car ride to school. Oh Boy.

  • My treat to myself was a nose piercing. I’ve thought of getting one for years and finally just went ahead and did it.

  • Phoebe and I did some shopping, the boys gamed and we watched football, and there you have it.

Happy Monday everyone!

2 Weeks of Kindergarten

I realized I had never actually posted about Enzo’s first day of kindergarten and subsequently not much else.  You wouldn’t think it’s much different than just dropping him off at preschool, but it really is.  We’ll get to that in a moment, however.  We sent Enzo off in style his first day because Pinterest.

Thank you, Pinterest for making me feel creatively inept every day. At least this was one idea I was able to actually pull off and at the last minute no less!  He was very proud of himself that morning and as a mom I’ve chosen not to care if my kids walk out of the house with crazy bedhead. It happens. I don’t care to fight that battle.

Phoebe was not to be outdone and also needed pictures of her outfit as well.

Sorry, Enzo… she will forever try to steal your thunder.  #oldersiblingproblems.

He was so excited and thankfully the first day the buses run late because I may or may not have misjudged timing and we got to day care late, but thankfully the bus was even later than us. Phew!

The way he ran onto that bus, you’d think he’d been doing it for ages.  Unfortunately, my allergies were really bad that day, so my eyes were watering and you would have thought I was emotional about my firstborn going to kindergarten or something. Pfft. As if.

So… how is it going?  Well, it’s an adjustment. I think he’s doing great. He enjoys going and what more can you ask for?  Much like his mom and dad were in elementary school, he has a little trouble focusing and can be a tad distracting to others, so it’s something we’ll work on.  One big difference?  Everything is electronic. I can see what he has for lunch every day, I can track his lunch money, I can see if his bus is running late, I can see his schedule and every thing else and his teacher emails me.  It’s a whole new world from when I was in school.

We’ve always known that adjustment and change doesn’t come easy for Enzo, so I think two weeks is a little soon to really come to any fast and hard conclusions.  I just hope his love continues. He was really excited that he gets to check out his own books and he made a friend on the bus, so fingers crossed it just gets better from here!
